Gusti Ayu Komang Sri Mahayuni

Gusti Ayu Komang Sri Mahayuni, known as Sayu, is a Balinese permaculture trainer who has worked in the field since 2003, when she first encountered it through the IDEP Foundation and through PERMATIL in Timor Leste. She has been with IDEP for twenty years and now sits on the foundation's supervisory board. IDEP is a Bali-based Indonesian organisation working in community-based disaster management and permaculture training.

In the course of those two decades she became a senior and master trainer at IDEP, delivering training to communities, local institutions, companies and government bodies. Her subjects run from ecological farming to the cultural side of food, and she has argued the case for permaculture as a form of cultural preservation and of local food sovereignty in Bali.

Seed keeping is a constant in her work. She is a spokesperson for Bibit Pusaka Bali, a Slow Food community devoted to preserving local seed varieties. With the Basebali community she has also spent two years celebrating Balinese culture through the Wariga Festival, which included running free Permaculture Design Courses for young people in Bali and elsewhere in Indonesia. She presented that work at IPC15 in Taiwan in 2024, and she takes part in IPC16 in Thailand in 2026.
